How Can Family Members Solve Ethical Dilemmas

Using a case example, the authors explore several ethical dilemmas that can erupt as the consequence of patient family members attempting to influence the patient care plan. Ethical situations can be grouped into three main categories: Working with families, interactions in the workplace, and working in the community and with partners. How can family members solve ethical dilemmas? Navigating ethical dilemmas within family dynamics can be quite challenging.

To address this gap in the literature, we surveyed patients and family members at three hospitals. De 2023 this study examines patients and family members reports of communication with healthcare providers regarding ethical concerns that arise during their own or their family. This article discusses why families and patients may disagree, describes relevant ethical perspectives for understanding the issues, and identifies possible strategies to help nurses.
